There is a Chinese proverb that says “the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now”.

On Earth Day 2022, that’s something we’re keen to put into action as part of our Kaipara Moana Remediation.

Our Foundation Planting programme, which is looking for landowners who have a minimum 0.25ha area of land, adjacent to water, and ready to plant this winter, is one easy, cost effective way for you to get trees in the ground this winter.

Our team of trained field advisors can come out, start our Sedimentation Reduction Plan, and build a planting plan for you and your land, so you can continue to build on the already great work being done around the Kaipara Moana.

Professor Tom Crowther at the Swiss University ETH Zürich who has led research into the benefits of restorative planting said his quantitative evaluation showcased that forest restoration is overwhelming the top solution in answer to climate change. The reasons for this are that it can be done now, it doesn’t take a government directive, or a high-tech solution, it’s about planting and growing trees on land, both of which the world has quite a bit of.
