World Wetlands Day 2025

2 February is World Wetlands Day, with this year’s theme ‘wetlands for our common future’.

The day recognises the critical role wetlands play in our environment, creating habitats for valued species, storing carbon and ensuring climate resilience, and protecting communities from floods.

In New Zealand, over 90% of wetlands have been lost due to drainage and land use change.
