Conservation Week 2025
For 2025 Conservation Week is asking you to “Take Action for Nature“.
Conservation Week, which runs through to 7 September, is a key event in the nature space with over 4,000 native species now threatened with extinction, or at a risk of becoming threatened.
Led by the Department of Conservation (DoC), events are happening across the nation, and Kaipara Moana Remediation is no different.
We’ve been working with DoC Kauri Coast and local iwi Te Roroa at Trounson Kauri Park in Kaihu, north of Dargaville. Trounson Park is home to both a significant stand of kauri but also a great spot for kiwi spotting. A dedicated action plan in the protected reserve ensures the population of kiwi continues to grow.
Our joint project focused on the headwaters of the Kaihu river, planting up stream banks on a farm that operates as part of the wider reserve. The riparian revegetation mix consists of tī kōuka, harakeke, mānuka, kāramuramu, akeake & koromiko, all of which were sourced from Te Toa Whenua nursery in Waipoua and run by Te Roroa.
The farmland, owned by DoC, and run as a beef unit by Te Roroa is a great site for future work for all three organisations and could be a great exemplar project site for interested neighbours.
This Conservation Week, DoC is calling on all Kiwis – businesses, communities and individuals – to take action for nature. Even small actions make a difference. If you share what you’re doing on your socials, your impact is even bigger.
Working with KMR makes it easy, get in touch today to continue protecting, restoring and taking action for nature.
