At this field day, funded by Kaipara Moana Remediation (KMR), we will raise awareness on the significant funding opportunities available for landowners to fence, plant trees and retire erodible sections of land whilst still maintaining a viable farming operation.
Topics covered on the day:
- How to access KMR matching funding for fencing and planting.
- Information on how to select the best tree for which situation, best practice in planting plus, tree management.
- What are the pros and cons of different tree species to plant?
a. We will cover trees species that include poplars, willows, exotics and natives. - Hear from our host. Winters 5000 SU on 385ha effective which mainly sells 300kg bulls and runs some sheep.
a. Includes a scenic 4WD (only) to see trees that have been planted on Valley Run Farm who have been planting trees for soil conservation, shade, shelter and nutrition since 1965.
b. Valley Run plant 300 – 500 trees per year. Come and learn their tips for successful tree establishment. - Benefits of shade to livestock
