Māori Agribusiness Wananga in Awarua
In November KMR staff attended and presented at a Māori Agribusiness Wānanga held in Awarua hosted by Beef and Lamb New Zealand and Ngāti Mahia Investments. The event gave farm managers, landowners, and local business operators the opportunity to come together, connect, network, and hear from organisations like KMR who can support them in new ventures for sustainable land use. A key focus for the event was sharing ideas on how farmers can balance core beef and sheep systems with regenerative agriculture projects that can have positive environmental and economic outcomes.
Community and Hapū Engagement Advisor Griffin Hope and Field Advisor Tim Eves presented how KMR can support sediment reduction projects through KMR’s Landowner and Whenua Whānui grants – offering funding, expert advice, and planning and support. The day included presentations by Beef and Lamb New Zealand, Tāmata Hauhā, and PGG Wrightson. A tour and presentation of the 1,512ha property owned by Ngāti Mahia Investments offered an opportunity for attendees to view recently completed fencing projects supported by KMR.
KMR Field Advisor Tim Eves was grateful for the opportunity to attend.
“Having the opportunity to meet face to face with landowners and other rural professionals was invaluable. Getting the KMR message directly to eligible landowners and agency representatives was a great result”, says Tim.
The event was well attended by agricultural industry professionals from across the rohe, with people attending from as far as Te Paki in the Far North of Te Tai Tokerau.
